And it's true. Painting kitchen cabinets is simple and provides stunning results. If you don't want to buy all new cabinets, but need a way to spruce up your kitchen, painting kitchen cabinets might be just the thing for you.

Unlike when you stain, painting kitchen cabinets gives you much more color choices. Plus, you have more room to be creative. There are numerous different types of paint finishes you can choose when you paint kitchen cabinets. For example, you can glaze, stencil, paint stripes or use crackle paint on your kitchen cabinets. To see some examples, watch the video. To get the most out of your new paint finish, you might want to consider also changing your cabinet hardware. A fresh coat of paint and new cabinet hardware will do wonders to a drab kitchen.

What You Will Need When Painting Kitchen Cabinets

A drop cloth, if you're a bit messy like me.

Mild soap, a clean sponge, a clean cloth and a bucket.

A screwdriver to remove your cabinet doors and hardware. You will also need a flathead screwdriver to open your primer and paint cans.

Liquid deglosser and a-lint free rag, or sandpaper.

Clean, high quality paintbrushes. Cheap paintbrushes are much harder to work with.

An oil based primer.

Oil based paint.

A couple of days without using your kitchen cabinets.

Choosing a Color When Painting Kitchen Cabinets

Keep in mind that the color you choose will look much different on the paint chip at the paint store than it will at home on your kitchen cabinets. That's because the lighting at paint stores is different than the lighting in your home. To make sure you get a color you love, buy a few small paint testers and paint them on test area of your kitchen cabinets. Let them fully dry before you decide on a color because the color of paint when it's wet is much different than paint when it is dry.

How to Paint Kitchen Cabinets

Before painting kitchen cabinets, you should remove the cabinet doors and cabinet hardware. It will make the cabinet much easy to clean and paint.

Once the cabinet doors and hardware have been removed, clean the kitchen cabinet base and doors with a mild soap and water. After thoroughly cleaning the cabinets, dry them with a clean cloth.

Then you need to rough up the kitchen cabinets to help make the paint stick. To do that you can either use a liquid deglosser or sandpaper. A liquid deglosser is much easier and faster to use. To use a liquid deglosser all you have to do is rub it on with a lint-free cloth and let it dry for the recommended time period. Then you can paint. I know, it's incredibly simple. If you decide to use sandpaper, you must make sure to clean up all of the dust left on the cabinets before you paint. Otherwise, the dust will ruin your paint finish.

After your kitchen cabinets have been all roughed up, it's time to start painting your kitchen cabinets. First, you need to apply your primer. You should use an oil-based primer because it sticks much better. To apply the primer, use a clean paintbrush. If you have beveled cabinet doors, you should always start painting the center raised portion of the door first and then work your way out. Painting the door in that order will help to eliminate drips. When painting flat doors and the base of kitchen cabinets, start painting on the top of one side of the cabinet and then work your way across. Use up and down strokes for the best result.

When you painting both cabinet doors and the base of the cabinets, use straight even strokes. If some of your strokes look heavier than others, go over them and blend them together. To blend your strokes together, start your brush stroke applying the amount of pressure you normally use when painting and as you move through the stroke, gently lift up your brush. Just like that. It will make your brush stroke disappear and blend into your previous brush strokes.

If you do find drips, don't worry. They are easy to eliminate. First, get all of the paint off of your paintbrush. Then blend the drip into the rest of the paint, using the blending technique I just showed you.

Once your primer is dry, it is really time to start painting your kitchen cabinets. You will want to start painting your kitchen cabinets as soon as the primer is dry to touch. Waiting too long after priming will make the paint finish less durable. Use an oil-based paint instead of a latex paint because it will have a much more durable finish. Apply the paint the same way as you did the primer. Let the first coat dry, and apply a second coat if needed.

After painting your kitchen cabinets, let them fully dry. Deep cabinets that can hold plates should be located near the dishwasher, and large cabinets with slide-out drawers should be placed near the oven.

Another space-saving device is to include built-in facilities. You can have built-in ovens, microwaves and storage for small appliances. This will make your kitchen appear less cluttered. Built-in storage for foods like potatoes and onions and bread storage cabinets will also give the kitchen a cleaner look. You can also opt for waist-high, sliding shelves that hold mixers and toasters. Your small appliances can remain hidden in these shelves and still be easily accessible.

If there is no room for a pantry in your kitchen, consider converting a closet outside the kitchen area to store your cutlery, pots and infrequently used items. You can also include rollout pantries that can be pulled out to view the items you have, but rolled back into a space.

Choose a large sink. It will be easier for you to clean bigger pots and pans. Moreover, a large sink is a great place to stash your dirty pots. A large sink can also serve as a utility sink, too.

You can increase the efficiency of your small kitchen by putting a wire basket on the inside the cabinet or under the sink to hold trash bags and other frequently used items. You can mount an instant hot water heater on the sink to replace the sprayer or soap.

A tile back splash on all the walls above the counters, stove and sink make the kitchen easier to clean.

Find More Kitchen Remodeling Ideas.

Kitchen Cabinet - Kitchen Cabinet Clutter

The last time you opened one of your kitchen cabinets did things fall on your head, were you afraid to venture behind some old boxes of Noodle-Roni, because of what might be living back there? It doesn't have to be this way. You can eliminate clutter from your kitchen cabinet with just a little fortitude and a bit of time.

First of all, don't let the enormity of the task overwhelm you. You don't have to tackle the whole job all at once. Break it down into sections and work on one section at a time. For instance, you can decide to do all the drawers first. In your cutlery drawer, get rid of flippers that have seen better days and the broken serving spoon you have been saving. In your junk drawer, get rid of old receipts and telephone numbers with no names. Put pictures and keepsakes in their special place before they are ruined or lost. You will probably find pens without ink and pencils with no tip or erasers. Throw it out. In no time at all, it will be as cluttered as it was before.

Get rid of any dishes, bowls, and cups that are chipped or broken. Do the same with your drinking glasses. Reorganize the kitchen cabinet if you want while you are doing this task. Chances are you can find a more convenient place in another kitchen cabinet for some of the items that you use every day. Your pots and pans should be the easiest kitchen cabinet to tackle. Most of those items you will keep, so just put them back neatly and get rid of anything that is worn, such as the finish on non-stick pans.

The kitchen cabinet that holds the food is usually the most frightening. Many of the items you purchased will still be edible, but you find your family just doesn't like it. Donate these items to a food pantry or a homeless shelter rather than throw them out. One mans garbage is another mans treasure. Canned items and boxed items are best for this. It will be greatly appreciated by a family in need and you will feel good about helping someone else.

Get More Kitchen Cabinet Ideas Here!

Cabinet Woodworking Plans - How to Build Kitchen Cabinets

Woodworking cabinet plans are the first step if you want to create a cabinet. Plan the most basic things in woodworking.we will produce good work if we use the plans mature and organized.

Then what is most fundamental in making woodworking cabinet plans? I’m not going to explain to friends who are experts, because I’m sure they do not need it, I give to my friends who have an expert because I believe they need this explanation, but I am very happy if you are already experienced to provide a correction if there is something wrong or not true. Because I still learning in woodworking to become an expert. This essence I learned from my experience when learning to make the woodworking cabinet plans.

Essence making cabinet woodworking plans is to determine a suitable idea for us; whether these ideas are relevant to our understanding of woodworking cabinet plans.that two ways we can use to take the idea to create woodworking cabinet plans. First we can get ideas from those who have experience in woodworking plans and projects. This idea can be found for free or paid. Should be noted if we take the ideas of others is their explanation of the skill level required from cabinet woodworking plans, details of time required to work on the plan and the equipment we need. Check whether the image, the pattern they provide very detailed and made in a language that is easy to understand or otherwise that is will make you headache if you are found they idea were really good and fit the criteria I am optimistic that you will succeed in doing the project.

The second is to create woodworking cabinet plans with our idea. For beginners that will make woodworking cabinets need a long enough time to make their own plans. The first step is to determine where we would use, measure the space available we will put these cabinets. This is all to determine the formula or the size of three-dimensional graphing. Then you start designing on graph paper size and image detail. All neatly arranged so that when you work on a project based only on those plans woodworking cabinet.

If you want more detailed information about woodworking cabinet plans you can see my article woodworking plans and projects, where you can see the furniture woodworking plans, woodworking kids projects or how to make a small woodworking projects and easy woodworking projects.

Tool Cabinet Woodworking Plans

Presto chango! But sometimes, finding a place to set up a tool or store more supplies means juggling the existing layout of wall cabinets or tool racks.

Corner Curio Cabinet Plans

Plan makes a great piece, sturdy and spacious. It fits snugly into any corner and has lots of display and storage space in the form of shelving, drawers, and cabinetry. Truly this is a traditional corner curio cabinet of American design and construction.

Large blueprint style plan features measured drawings, a list of materials you need, photos, and instructional material. Most cuts are straight, but curves get full size patterns. A patient intermediate woodworker can complete this project. The photos are useful.

If you're seeking a more substantial and tradionally constructed corner cabinet, you might look at our 18th Century Early American design. It is a bit more advanced.

More Woodworking Plans:

Woodworking Bed Plans

Chair Woodworking Plans

Desk Woodworking Plans

Best Woodworking Plans

Table Woodworking Plan

Wood Bench Plans

What is Kitchen Cabinet Refinishing?

If the thought of kitchen cabinet refinishing seems daunting and messy you may want to consider turning the job over to a professional who can make short work of your cabinet refinishing.

Kitchen cabinet refinshing done by professionals results in the fastest and neatest job, and usually gets better results due to thier experience and the expensive equiment they have available.

Directions for Refinishing Kitchen Cabinets

To start with, first remove kitchenware from the cabinets and drawers. Look carefully for any signs of damage, rot and wear. Particularly check the cabinets under the dishwasher and the sink for rot.

If you find rot in the cabinets, then replace the affected part before you start the refinishing work. You will need the help of a carpenter to replace the affected cabinet.

Once, you have done this, disassemble the doors and drawers of the cabinet. Label the cabinet openings and doors. Put the same label at the back side of the door and the corresponding cabinet opening.

Mask the kitchen countertop and floor with the drop cloth.

Take the hangers and hinges off the cabinet door.

Dust the cabinets, drawers and the cabinet doors. Then, clean them with a household cleaner solution and rinse off the cleaner with cool water.

Use wood glue or wood putty to fill the holes, if there are any.

Take sandpaper and rub it over the surface of the door and cabinets to remove the gloss and irregularities. Vacuum off the dust, so that you can easily apply the paint.

Now, apply paint or varnish using your paintbrush. Lay down the cabinet doors and paint the doors from top to bottom, then paint the drawers and at last the frame.

Before applying the second coat of paint, wait for the first coat to dry.

During the time that the paint dries, clean the handles and hinges with a drop cloth and household cleaner solution. You can also replace the handles with new ones. Also, new hinges are a better option.

After you are done with all these, replace the cabinet doors and drawers carefully, ensuring that they are leveled with the frame.

Your kitchen will get a fresh look with refinished kitchen cabinets. It became a very popular trend during those years and was one of today’s most popular window, wall and doorway decors.

Learn more about Bamboo Shade

Bamboo Blinds

Bamboo roman venetian blinds are a great way to decorate your windows. They are easy to use and are fun to decorate with as well. Read on if you want to know how best to use these blinds and where to find the cheapest deals on them.

Bamboo roman blinds are made of bamboo and are arranged by strips of bamboo wood. They are suspended by strips of cloth called tapes, or by cord. This is very similar to how venetian blinds are arranged which is why people sometimes use the name:bamboo roman venetian blinds.

Benefits of bamboo roman blinds

First of all, they are super easy to clean. Nothing bothers me as much as having to spend a lot of time getting the dust and dirt off my window blinds. These roman blinds made it dead easy to clean and maintain. Use use a cloth to wipe them down. There is no fuss or trouble.

There are a wide selection of styles and colors for you to choose from. In terms of colors, there is brown, black, reddish and blue. My personal favourite is white bamboo roman blinds. The color add a touch of modern and contemporary to your home while retaining the benefits of using bamboo as a material. If white is not your thing, there are different shades of browns for you to choose from as well. I am sure you can find something that will match the color theme of your home.

In terms of styles, there are also quite a number of designs to choose from. There is the matchstick style that goes very well with small windows. There is also the flat rounded style that is the norm with these kinds of blinds. You can add bamboo valance as well as some smart clothing to add to the elegant touch of the bamboo roman blinds.

Bamboo roman blinds are also very easy to install. What you need is some measuring tape, a holepuncher and a scredrvier. What you need to do is simply to follow the instructions that come with the purchase of the blinds. Basically, you just need to mount the blinds and install the blinds on the mounts. For more information, you can refer to my earlier post on how to put up bamboo blinds.

Where to buy bamboo roman venetian blinds

There are general sites like Amazon or Target that sells these types of blinds. Alternatively, there are speicalised sites that sells only bamboo products. For example, blindsuk.net is an online UK site that sells all things are blinds related. They offer more selection as well as better support in terms of how to care and maintain your blinds. Prices wise, both types of sites offer competitive pricingso you wouldn’t be too far off buying from any of these sites.

Learn more about bamboo blinds.

Shopping for Kitchen Cabinets

Kitchen Cabinets are by and large the core of any kitchen. They can be highlighted by kitchen appliances such as the refrigerator, stove, cooktop, dishwasher and microwave, or these appliances can be modified to blend in by using panels that match your kitchen cabinets.

Shopping for kitchen cabinets can be intimidating, especially for a first time buyer. There are hundreds/thousands of major kitchen cabinet companies, and many more smaller custom kitchen cabinet shops where you can get any cabinet made from any species of wood that your mind can imagine. Add to that list the explosion of RTA Kitchen Cabinet importers, and the laminated cabinet manufacturers, and suddenly the list can be overwhelming. Not to mention the fact that higher price doesn't always means high quality in construction, or more features being available.

In the past, pricing had always been the way to categorize kitchen cabinets. Traditionally, tthe higher-quality cabinets simply cost more money. As I mentioned before, with more and more Kitchen Cabinet importers conforming to the KCMA (Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association) building standards, some of the RTA Kitchen Cabinets or Stock kitchen cabinets can actually be a sturdier cabinet than the traditional, made to order cabinets. Regardless of what type of kitchen cabinet you decide to go with, it does not take much effort to spend tens of thousands of dollars on the actual kitchen cabinets.

Most kitchen cabinet manufacturers build their kitchen base and wall cabinets in standard sizes. The kitchen base cabinets are often 34.5 inches tall and 24 inches deep. They come in widths starting at 12 inches and can go up to 48 inches often in increasing width increments of 3 inches. Kitchen wall cabinets are often 12 inches deep and 30 inches or 42 inches tall. They also come in the same size widths as the base cabinets. Wall cabinets also come in several different heights and depths for locations such as over the refrigerator or over the microwave/hood range unit. With custom kitchen cabinets, you have even more choices available, since the kitchen cabinets will be created specifically for your kitchen space.

Different semi-custom kitchen cabinet manufacturers make different-sized kitchen cabinets for all sorts of special looks and situations. It is not uncommon to have one cabinet extend beyond adjacent cabinets to create a distinguished look. It pays to shop around to see all of the different possibilities and special cabinet features offered by the custom and semi-custom kitchen cabinet manufacturers.

One of the biggest advantages to true custom kitchen cabinets is the ability to make one giant base or wall kitchen cabinet instead of separate boxes that are screwed together by the installer at the jobsite. A custom-cabinet maker can easily make one giant base cabinet 8 feet long that installs as if it were a piece of furniture. The same is true for wall kitchen cabinets. The advantage of this method is the lack of vertical seams where two traditional cabinet boxes would mate up to one another.

Pay particular attention to the materials used to build the kitchen cabinets. Some kitchen cabinets are made with minimal-quality engineered lumber, particleboard, or fiberboard. . If you plan to load a wall cabinet with heavy traditional china, the weight of the dishes may cause the cabinet to pull apart over time. This is particularly true when it comes to the semi-custom cabinets that the name brand cabinet manufacturers sell at the big box stores (which is why price is not always an accurate gauge of cabinet quality). Many of the RTA Kitchen Cabinet manufacturers use solid plywood sides, which obviously creates a strong kitchen cabinet box than a particleboard or fiberboard box. When it comes to custom cabinets, the material choices are endless and can usually be specified by the customer.

Another factor that will determine the price of kitchen cabinets is the material used to hold it together. Custom kitchen cabinet manufacturers will often use a combination of dovetailed joints, wood biscuits, and glue to create tight joints. Mid-grade kitchen cabinets will have a wide range of materials holding them together (staples and nails on the lower end, to cam lock assembly and wood glue on the higher end). Most RTA Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers utilize the cam lock system, which creates a nice sturdy cabinet, and when enhanced with wood glue, can last a life time. Steer away from any kitchen cabinets that are using staples, wooden dowels, or just screws. The strength of the cabinet will be compromised at the joints with these weaker joining materials.

Kitchen Cabinets Refacing

Kitchen cabinets refacing is one of the less expensive home improvement projects that you could tackle that could considerably create an impact to your home. Other than costing just about a third of the amount you have to allot to a cabinet replacement project, it cal also be done by a professional in as fast as two days. This can be done to whatever type of cabinet so long as the cabinetry is still in great condition and the layout suits you well. Refacing is your solution to an outdated look. But if there are already signs of damage and deterioration or you want to change the location of your kitchen cabinets, then you what you should be looking into is replacement for the whole feature which can be quite costly.

Before getting on with the task, keep in mind that kitchen cabinets refacing require ample carpentry skills. In case of repairable damages like holes, certain measures like sanding, filling and sealing should be done first before the installation of new faces can be done. The current finish of the cabinets should also be determined as the removal of different finishes requires different products. Measurements need to be accurate. If you think you are not up to the job, then hiring a cabinet refacing contractor or company is the better way. Though availing of contractor services can add to the budget, this option poses less risks and can add considerably to the years that you and your family can enjoy the new look.

Kitchen cabinets refacing is done through adding new doors or faces, replacing hardware and improve the framework holding them. The framework can be spruced up using different approaches. The exposed portions of the existing frames can resurfaced with paint, matching wood or install laminate veneer over them. Veneer comes in cherry, oak and maple and is available in a range of stains and thickness. Some of the most popular refacing materials used by homeowners include: wood veneer, wood over wood laminates and plywood. When the hardware already shows signs of wear or still remains dull even after polishing, then it is high time to replace them. It is important to shop for hardware such as knobs, cases and pulls that complement the rest of your cabinetry. Your choice of kitchen cabinets refacing products will affect the overall price of the project, appearance and durability.

White Kitchen Island with Natural Top

Small kitchen - small island. Their style, color, and decoration will contribute most to your cabinets’ overall look. Be sure that your countertops, flooring, and other design elements complement the cabinets you choose. The first thing you need to decide is the material you want to use and how you want to finish it off.

Wood

Wood doors remain the preferred entree, not just because they’re so plentiful but because they’re durable, beautiful and versatile. The top woods are oak, maple, cherry, hickory and pine. If you’re having a hard time deciding what natural wood you prefer, ask yourself what kind of grain you like. If you prefer a hardwood with a tight grain and a strong pattern that darkens when exposed to light, you’ll want to go with cherry. Maple is a light hardwood with a tight grain and less noticeable pattern, while oak is a light hardwood with an open grain and striped pattern. For a more open grain with a strong pattern and random knots you can go for pine - just remember it’s a soft wood and shows dents and scratches easily. The odd wood out is hickory because it has very dramatic grain patterns and color variations.

Shaping The Door - Slab, Raised and Recessed Panels

When it comes to deciding the shape of your kitchen cabinet doors you can choose to go flat, raised or recessed in a pattern that can be plain and simple or intricately carved. Slab is a flat door style that gives the appearance of a solid piece of wood with no raised or recessed profile. They’re usually made out of several pieces of solid stock lumber and joined with an adhesive. If you opt for laminate slab you’ll get a door made of substrate material and then covered with laminate. The best way to understand the look of a recessed panel is to think of a picture frame with a flat panel. The frame can be attached to the panel by using a mitered joint, tenon and mortise joint (similar to tongue and groove) or cope and pattern joint. These panels are easy to decorate and popular when made with a groove. A raised panel is constructed in the same manner as a recessed panel except it’s given an edge by cutting it dimensionally and then routing or shaping the desired edge profile, like square, Cathedral or arched.

Finishing it off

Thanks to hi-tech finishing techniques used by cabinet manufacturers, cleaning your cabinets is no longer a major household chore.

By using polyurethane finishes, particularly those that are heat catalyzed, your cabinets should only require a good dusting or wiping. Think longevity, when you choose your finish, because a clear finish will show the natural changes in wood over time, while staining the wood in its natural color will lock that shade in forever.

Behind The Doors

Know All Your Panels - Side, Back, Top and Bottom
Now that you’ve satisfied your taste - aesthetically speaking - it’s time to get practical and learn about what’s behind the doors. After all, a cabinet is just a box...and the quality of the cabinet lies in the construction of the box, not the door. As a rule, when it comes to cabinetry - you get what you pay for. High-end cabinets are usually always high quality and low cost cabinets are just that - poor quality. The majority of cabinet manufacturers offer several different levels of prices based on quality.

More posts on kitchen cabinet doors

Repainting the doors of the kitchen cabinets

Createc UV High Gloss Kitchen Doors by Polytec

Cabinet Door Parallel Jaw Bar Clamp Kit

Cabinet Doors Twisting in the Clamp

The Key to Purchase Cabinet Door

Home Building - Kitchen Cabinets

Kitchen cabinets are the key ingredient in any kitchen. They will influence the look and feel of the heart of your home more than anything else because it’s not only the most visible part of the kitchen, but the “Meeting Place” of every home. Picking the right cabinetry is essential in creating your kitchen’s personality, but don’t let appearances mislead you. It’s what’s behind the door that will matter the most, every time you open your cabinet drawer or door.

Since kitchen cabinets represent the single largest investment in a new kitchen (about 60 to 70 percent of a kitchen’s cost), you should carefully explore all your options to avoid confusion and potentially costly mistakes. Here’s a little Cabinetry 101 to help you get started choosing the right products for your cabinet design.

Stock, Semi-Custom and Custom Cabinets

When you think stock, semi-custom and custom, don’t think of these choices in terms of the level of quality, because fine cabinetry is available with all three - as is poor quality. These terms simply designate the type of production method used to make the cabinet. Simply put, stock cabinets are mass-produced, semi-custom are stock cabinets that can be slightly altered and custom cabinets are built to order to meet individual needs and specifications. All three varieties are available in framed (a box with a frame surrounding the front edge) and frameless (a box with no face frame) construction. The cost of having your kitchen cabinets can start around $7,000 to $9,000 for stock and $14,000 to $18,000 for custom. With the amount of styles, materials, brand names, accessories and hardware out there, the price can quickly escalate.

Stock kitchen cabinets

These are the plentiful cabinets, because they’re produced in large quantities on a mass production scale. Cabinet manufacturers, dealers and home improvement centers stock pile large quantities of cabinet parts so cabinets can be assembled quickly. Not wanting to miss out on a piece of the pie, stock cabinet manufacturers have greatly improved and expanded its product line to include a nice bounty of sizes, shapes, styles, wood species and finishes. The drawback to using stock cabinets is that you can’t make any modifications, so what you see is what you get. You may also find you come up a little short in width and height (filler strips are used to fill the gaps). Stock cabinets still remain the most popular choice because they’re affordable and readily available.

Semi-Custom kitchen cabinets

Semi-custom cabinets are a stock line of cabinets where simple modifications will be made at the time of production. Semi-custom also offers you more choices when it comes to style, construction materials and colors. You can be a little more creative when going semi-custom by choosing some unique built-ins like pullout bins, lazy susans, matching interiors and inverted frames. Be sure to ask the manufacturer if this option is available. Be thorough with semi-custom because changes can be very expensive and increase delivery time (which is already a month or more) and they may not be returnable if they don’t fit.

Custom kitchen cabinets

Don’t be fooled by the word custom or think that you will be able to draw a design and have it made to your specifications, because that is hard to find (and very, very costly). In the real world of manufactured cabinetry, custom can mean anything from slight modifications to elaborate add-ons. Most manufacturers start out with a basic product line offering cabinets in standard sizes and customize from there. The big difference between a semi-custom and a custom manufacturer is the number of changes they are willing to make to their product lines. Most manufacturers offer a large selection of finish options, trims and storage configurations and accessories. Be patient if you go custom because it can take 12 weeks or longer before your cabinets are delivered and in many cases payment in full is required when the order is placed.

How to Select Kitchen cabinet designs?

Majority of the space in a kitchen is taken up by the kitchen cabinet. Because of this, it is quite important that you choose kitchen cabinets wisely. There are lots of choices available for you in the market. But before you buy, you have to take into consideration a number of factors. These factors include cost, style, door material, color and frames.

If you are on a tight budget, it is advisable that you reface your existing cabinets. Point to be noted here is that refacing is more economical as compared to remodeling. In addition, refacing also take less time in comparison to remodeling. Deciding on kitchen cabinet design for your kitchen is not easy, as you have to choose from four different kinds of design patterns, namely, stock cabinets, frameless cabinets, custom cabinets and semi-custom cabinets.

The cost of these kitchen cabinet designs will depend on the brand, layout, kind of wood and finish you want and interior accessories. In terms of price, stock cabinets are most economical. This is because of the simple reason that you have only have limited choices, styles and colors in stock cabinets.

Generally speaking, stock kitchen cabinets come in three grades. First one is the standard, which is made from particleboard. It also consists of 4-sided drawer box that is glued and stapled. Second one is the midrange stock cabinet. The drawer boxes of these cabinets are much better than the standard one. Last but not the least is the higher-grade stock cabinet that features concealed hinges and plywood sides.

The prices of semi custom cabinets are moderate. The best part about these cabinets is that you get lot more variety in terms of styles, finishes and colors. Another good thing about semi custom cabinets is that they come in number of heights and depths. These cabinets are normally made of wood. To give it a good furniture finish, semi custom cabinets are made with two sanding processes.

Of all the kitchen cabinet designs, custom-made cabinets are the best. The main reason behind this is that these cabinets provide you with unlimited styles, design and colors possibilities. No doubt, custom-made cabinets are more expensive than any other kitchen cabinet design but if your main objective is to get quality kitchen cabinets then there is nothing better than custom-made cabinets. Frameless cabinets normally have no front frame. In addition, the door of these cabinets is attached directly to the box.

Are You Considering New Kitchen Cabinets?

The style you select for your new kitchen cabinets depends totally on you. What feel do you want to create? What look are you going for? What flows and goes with the style design in the rest of your home?

Antique, bone and linen white or off white kitchen cabinets can create everything from contemporary, traditional to modern. Basically, just matching the decor of the rest of your house should be your main concern. This makes things easier when you select the complimentary finish, stain, door style and cabinet hardware for your kitchen cabinets.

Kitchen cabinet styles are normally just a matter of taste. Please note that the kitchen cabinet door design does not necessarily have to dictate the overall theme for your kitchen cabinets. The theme is normally decided by the wallpaper, paint color, accessories or decoration, pictures, etc.. For long lasting appreciation of your new kitchen let your taste decide for you unless you are imitating or copying a specific cabinet style or theme of a favorite decorator. Try to focus on the quality of the construction of the cabinets you intend to use.

One of the following cabinet styles can be used basically in any kitchen theme. Ones' home should be their get away, our sanctuary so to speak, from the busy, hectic outside world. Listed below are five design trends that you may identify with. This will help you to identify and choose cabinetry styles, finishes and personalization to create a home just for you.

Eclectic Charm is fun with a mixture of all the things you love that just seem to go together. This is an individualized laid back approach that allows you to blend textures, tones, different eras and use of color and shape to bring it all together.

Restful Retreats creates peace from the chaos and presents a style that's focused around comfort and relaxation. This style is the perfect retreat from a hurried world.

The world at your doorstep best describes worldly grace design. This design draws inspiration from nations or places you carry in your heart and are seemingly drawn to the decor of the country. Italian, old world African, Asian and latin influences are just a few inspirations you might like. Always in good and classy taste, these designs are more defined and tailored style that is timeless.

Simple Element styles are clean and crisp with clean lines and less ornamentation. In other words simple, sophisticated space with smart presentation, yet with a calm soothing effect.
When deciding what is best for your taste and style, browsing through pictures of cabinets can help you with ideas to incorporate into your own style. Always pay special attention to traffic flow because if the flow is not conducive and does not flow smoothly from one to the next, try changing fixtures, appliances or even entrance ways. Angling countertops is a simple solution for the narrow doorways and the same can be said for certain corners on a kitchen cabinet island. Making sure you have enough room between stations will keep the human bumper cars pass easily without the shoulder to shoulder grind. Hanging kitchen pictures allows you to gain a different perspective.

Does the kitchen seem to busy or crowded? Does it seem too cramped or small? Is there enough lighting that creates interest? Obviously, you will want lighting for both day and night to accent the things you love best about your kitchen Your kitchen features should make your kitchen bright and cheery and not like a dungeon. A lot depends on the color of the stain on your kitchen cabinets. These cabinets cover a significant amount of wallspace.

This means less light reflecting surface. If you have very little window light during the day, you may want to consider white or very light wood grain cabinets. Consider these ideas before you make final decisions on your kitchen and kitchen cabinet decor saving you time, money and affording you peace of mind.

Re-face or completely replace your kitchen cabinets

Your cabinets have a significant impact on the appearance of your new kitchen. With tons of choices in colors and styles, you can find almost any look to create the kitchen of your dreams. One of the things you need to consider is whether you want to refacing kitchen cabinets or completely replace them. Also consider the amount of storage room you need and your budget.
When deciding whether to replace or re-face your cabinets, you should first think about the condition of your current kitchen cabinets. If changing the color or overall look of your cabinets is what you need, re-facing may be best for you. Re-facing is also good for faded or worn cabinets.

On the other hand, if you want to increase storage space and or redo the layout of your kitchen, you should probably replace your kitchen cabinets. Also, if your current cabinets are broken or falling off the walls, cabinet replacement is a must. Ask your kitchen remodeling contractor about what is the best choice for your kitchen!

More posts on kitchen cabinet refacing:

Kitchen Cabinet Refinishing Alternatives

Planning Kitchen Cabinet Refacing

The business of refacing cabinets

The Process of Painting Kitchen Cabinets Dark

Make Kitchen Cabinets Look Good in a Cost-Savings Way

Kitchen Cabinet Remodeling Choices

Kitchen Cabinet Types and Styles

Cabinets usually come in one of three types: stock, semi-custom and custom. Stock Cabinets are available in standard sizes and shapes. Stock cabinets are the least expensive but your choices are limited when it comes to cabinet design and function. Since these cabinets do not come in special sizes, they may require filler strips to close gaps between a cabinet and a wall.
Semi-Custom Cabinets are the middle-of-the-road choice. They come in a wider variety of sizes and shapes than stock cabinets and offer more colors, including a wider variety of wood types and staining.

Customkitchen cabinets give you endless choices and flexibility when choosing kitchen cabinets in design, style, color, wood type, etc. Although they are more expensive than the other two types, they are well made to fit your individual kitchen and give you a unique look.

Cabinets do not only come in a variety of colors and materials, they also come in a variety of styles to match your kitchen. Take the time to make sure that the cabinets are assembled as securely, squarely and evenly as you can. Install upper cabinets first if possible, so that you will not need to work over the lower units.

Locate studs with a stud finder and use a level to draw a line down at their locations. Measure from the ceiling to mark the height of the cabinet brace or rail you will fasten to the studs.

Upper cabinets go first, starting at one end or in a corner. Be sure to arrange for a helper to lift and support them during installation. Follow all manufacturer instructions for installation.

Now mark the locations of your studs for the lower cabinets. Move them into place and check which cabinet sits highest. It's easier to shim the others up to this height than to shorten the tall one.

Make cutouts for plumbing, electrical, etc. Be sure these are accurate, and leave a little extra room so cabinets can be moved a little and not interfere with pipes or wiring.

Level the top of the cabinets by shimming under and behind them. Remember that you will install a counter top on the cabinets, so you want this reasonably level and all the joints flush. Also look at the appearance of the cabinet fronts and make sure those are even.

Screw the lower cabinets to the wall as per manufacturer's instruction. Test fit the counter top. Cut to length if required, and cut out the sink opening and the opening for the stove if it will be built-in. Allow 1/4 extra inch on the overall length so you can caulk the ends after it's installed.

Place the counter top on top of the lower cabinets. Screw from underneath, making sure that the screws you use are not so long that they will break through the material to the top.

Apply caulk around the sink cutout and lower the sink into place. Check the fit and location, then secure it into place. Apply caulk around the rim of the sink.

Apply caulk around the edges of the counter top and between the backsplash and the wall. Install the stove in a similar fashion.

Install the cabinet doors and hardware, and adjust the hinges so that the doors hang properly. Reinstall any other appliances you removed during your remodeling project. Replace the baseboards.

Painting Kitchen Cabinet

Painting kitchen cabinet will give a new look to an existing area. You can change the style, color, and almost anything else to create the image you are after. There are a lot of manufacturers that offer high quality products to fill most any need.

Before starting, see if your existing cabinets can be refinished or resurfaced. Sometimes, this can be done for a fraction of the cost of new units. And it's certainly less work on your part.

While you're at it, take a look around for other items that need replacement. What about those faucets and appliances? Lighting fixtures? Paint or wallpaper?

If you decide to go ahead with new cabinets, plan your job. Take measurements, make note of appliances and fixtures that have to be moved. Are you changing the color of the entire room? What about new light fixtures? How about the floor? This might be a good time to install new ceramic floor tile.

Get brochures from several cabinet companies and compare features, warranties, and prices. These will tell you what standard sizes are available, finishes, styles, materials, and hardware options. You may have to order a custom size to fit your area, but it is usually much less expensive to use standard sizes.

More post on painting kitchen cabinets:
Painting Kitchen Cabinets
The Process of Painting Kitchen Cabinets Dark
Painting kitchen cabinets will save you money

How Should I Decorate My Kitchen Cabinet?

Kitchens are an integral part of most homes, and your kitchen cabinet designs should reflect that. All of the cabinet makers that have come into the house have suggested replacing them with cherry cabinets. I have a medium oak trim & doors throughout the house and maple floors in the family room, living & dining rooms taht are stained to amtch the oak (Mercier Gunstock) . There is a tile floor in the kitchen, all the floors have recently been replaced. My question is this, can I use a different wood species such as cherry wood for the cabinets or should I stick to maple for consistency? Again there is no maple directly in the kitchen but the patio doors & window are trimmed in the oak and the dining room and family flank the kitchen.

Ray Staples once said something that I'll never forget. I'm paraphrasing, but she basically said 'There's more than one type of tree in the forest and it looks good. Why should their only be one type of wood in your house?'

Personally, I like the mixed wood look. I've got hickory cupboards, maple floors and pine doors; and I'm quite happy with the mixture. It sounds like the oak in your house paired with cupboards in a different would be a good mixture. (Ie - if you've got all oak, you don't one wee little piece of furniturein something different; but cabinets are substantial, and will do well holding their own against the oak.)

If anything worried it me, it would be the mixture of the colours. Cherry tends to be on the pinkish side to me. Oak tends to be more orange. While I have no objections to mixing wood; I'd want to make sure that the stains are of similar tones.

Related topics:

kitchen storage cabinets
How to buy kitchen cabinets
Discount kitchen cabinets
Used kitchen cabinets

Tips of Buying Wholesale Kitchen Cabinets

Here is some tips of buying Wholesale Kitchen Cabinets:

1. The self-made cabinet often picks the ordinary plywood and hardware from the market, you may think that is good. This kind of cabintes can't resist moist, high temperature and the corrosive goods corrosion in the kitchen. But the manufacture of specialized cabinet, considered the use environment, use thermostable, the corrosion resistance and corrosion resistant board fireproofing. It is not easy to distort and be able to withstand over ten thousand time switch, and not to damage.

The craft is different. The cabinet production of specialized factory is industrialized, they have strict standard from the material, the polishing to the installation,to seal the edge by high temperature and high pressure, the semblance is neat and reliable after the edge sealing.

The design is different. Generally speaking, the rationality of functional design is among the main actors in the technology content of the kitchen cabinets. The designer of the specialized cabinet manufacture considers operators' active route, realizeS the entire operation flow in the shortest distance in the design. But the self-made cabinet pays great attention on basic storage function, very difficult to consider the design the rationality.it is difficult to take into account the reasonableness of the design.

The service is different. The careful comprehensive service is very important too.Because the scene constructors have not undergone the professional training, to the production process, they don't understand the material using and the craft very much,it is difficult to maintain when the kitchen cabinet has problem.the professional services include pre-sale survey design,on-sale installation, and after-sale services, such as the creation of user files, paying a return visit to the customer, reparing the kitchen cabinets if required.

Other post on kitchen cabinets:

Discount Kitchen Cabinets

Painting Kitchen Cabinets in 5 Easy Steps

How to Save Money on Kitchen Cabinets | RTA cabinets

Buying unfinished kitchen cabinets

Kitchen cabinet Refacing
